This is the best list of ways to increase milk supply quickly with products, treats, supplements and awesome tips and tricks for breastfeeding.

Ways To Increase Milk Supply

I have been breastfeeding my little guy, Logan, for 11 months now…yay!  In the early days of nursing and getting ready to go back to work, milk supply was a super huge overriding freak-out concern of mine!  Luckily over the past few months, we’ve gotten into a pretty good rhythm and leveled things off for the most part.

However, even now I still run into times when my supply dips due to weird work scheduling conflicts or random family activities that require a lot of travel, etc.  So every now and then, almost a year in, I still need help to boost my supply!  So I am always on the lookout for ways to increase milk supply.

Now, this is something that I did a TON of research on about 6 months to a year ago, but figured it would be a good time to revisit it since our schedule has been so crazy lately and I’m seeing the impact on my supply!  It is insane how many options there are out there to increase milk supply and most of them are super tasty treats!

This list is current as of Fall 2016 and I intend to keep an eye on it to update as things change!  Also, the best thing of all…most of these are small businesses and I am all about shopping small!  So check these out and let me know if you have any questions or suggestions!

1. Mrs. Patels Fenugreek Bars \\ You probably already know that these bars are my absolute #1 favorite milk supply booster!  As soon as I eat one of these I see a HUGE boost in supply within 24 hours.  I totally swear by these!  I love them so much I even wrote a pretty long blog post about them HERE.

How it Feels to Make a Living with Affiliate Marketing: An Interview with Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

Earn Income Online | Affiliate Marketing | Frugal Nesting

Epiphany

I have not been blogging for long, but anytime I start something I get obsessed and go all in.  Blogging is no different, so I dove head first into it as far as learning everything I possibly could!  I wanted to know everything from how to get my own website, making it look pretty, strategy for quality writing, growing an audience, etc.  In that research, something became clear very early on that piqued my interest and that was the fact that people are able to make money from their blogs.

That was, and still kind of is, foreign and crazy to me.  But what really blew my mind was that there are some people who earn income online and are able to blog for a living.  Yes, you read that correctly.  Some people earn a full-time income just from having a blog.  And hold onto your seats…some people make more in a month from their blog than I make in a year at my “real” job!

Burning the Candle At Both Ends

As a mom working a full-time job I constantly feel that both my job and my kids suffer as I try to juggle both.  We all know the mom guilt is real and it’s intense.  Burning the candle at both ends can really take its toll on our well being too.  So the notion that a person can actually work from home, or from anywhere for that matter, and earn a decent living doing something they love is like my dream!  That being said, I am not even in that ballpark.  I just blog for the love of it, but have recently begun to put processes in place to earn some extra spending money!

The money that I do earn blogging has jumped dramatically since I took an e-course by Michelle Schroeder-Gardner of Making Sense of Cents.  She is one of the bloggers I mentioned who makes more per month from her blog than I make per year in my middle-class business day job.  In fact, in one month she makes about double my yearly earnings.  In July of 2016, she made $112,594.97 for the month.  Anyway, Michelle has the most awesome setup at this point.  She quit her day job a while ago, sold her home and travels full time with her hubby in an RV.  All while earning money in her sleep from her blog!

The Interview

I recently interviewed Michelle about how blogging has changed her life and she had some pretty awesome things to say.  Take a minute to read our interview below:

Pumpkin Oatmeal Lactation Cookies

Oatmeal Lactation Cookies

Autumn is my absolute favorite time of year! And with that comes pumpkin everything…lucky for me since I LOVE pumpkin!  This fall I am busy with a million things including both nursing and pumping milk for my little guy, Logan!  As you know from my post “How I Increased My Milk Supply Overnight“, maintaining my milk supply is always on my mind.  So I figured what better way to shake things up than to incorporate pumpkin, a lactogenic food, into a lactation cookie for a seasonal twist on the standard oatmeal lactation cookies!

Not only does this recipe incorporate pumpkin, but it also includes the following galactogagues: oatmeal, flaxseed and brewer’s yeast.  So these cookies are a game-changing powerhouse of milk-making goodness all wrapped up in a yummilicious cookie!  These are so good that the rest of the family will be fighting you for them, however just write “Mama’s Milk Making Cookies – HANDS OFF” on a gallon Ziploc bag and store them in the fridge to prevent them from disappearing!  Or you could just make a double batch to share!

The BEST Quick & Easy Shepherd's Pie recipe. As a working mom, I have recently gotten into budget meal planning. This is great for weeknight meal prep. I love it with turkey, but you could use ground beef!

Shepherd’s Pie = Comfort Food

Below you will find all of the details on how to throw this all together quickly & easily any weeknight for a scoop of comfort food!

The BEST Quick + Easy Shepherd's Pie Recipe

This is cheap, simple, quick, kid friendly & DELICIOUS! Also, great for leftovers!

I just reheated it in the office & I began to overhear people saying that it smells like Thanksgiving dinner. Unfortunately, I did not bring enough to share! 😉 YUM!

  • 1 lb Ground Turkey
  • 1/2 Red Onion, Medium
  • 1 can Condensed Tomato Soup
  • 1 can Condensed Vegetarian Vegetable Soup
  • 1/2 bag Frozen Vegetables
  • 1 1/2 c. Water
  • 1/2 c. Milk
  • 2 Tbsp. Butter
  • 1 pkg Mashed Potato Flakes, Garlic

1 | Heat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit

2 | Chop the onion

3 | Brown the turkey in a large skillet

4 | Add the chopped onion and simmer (...this is when your family will begin to exclaim "What smells so good? When is dinner gonna be ready? I'm hungry! What's for dinner? and so on...)

5 | Get your water & butter started boiling in a medium saucepan

6 | Stir frozen vegetables in with browned turkey & onions. Add soup and simmer.

7 | Once water & butter have reached a rolling boil remove from heat & stir in milk & mashed potato flakes. Let this mixture settle for 1 minute.

8 | Transfer turkey mixture into a casserole dish and spoon potatoes over mixture.

9 | Bake at 375 for 20 minutes. If potatoes haven't browned you can turn to broil for a minute or two...make sure to watch it so it doesn't burn!

10 | Carefully remove from the oven & let your dish cool for 5 - 10 minutes.

11 | Dish up & garnish w/ketchup! 😉

How I Made My 1st $250+ as a Newbie Blogger

How I Made My 1st $250+ as a Newbie Blogger

Background

I am a new blogger with a handful of fun posts, a few subscribers, and growing pageviews.  My blog is small & new, but isn’t that where we all start?  This is a quick note, to those of you who are just starting out, with info on how I got started and how I started making money with my blog very early on.  I am going to begin with a bit of background on how I started my blogging journey, but please feel free to jump to the bottom for the good stuff…I won’t be offended!

What Is A Blog

I just recently started reading and following blogs about four years ago. Before that, I thought of blogs as mainly glorified diaries. And for many people that is precisely what they are and that is great. However, it was only about four years ago that I realized that blogs also existed as a resource. My first experiences with blogs as a resource began with couponing and deal websites like CouponPro Blog, Krazy Coupon Lady and Southern Savers when I decided to dive head on into “extreme couponing”!

I quickly realized what a wealth of information was out there from other “real people” expressing information, tips, tricks and recommendations from their respective areas of expertise. One thing I noticed right away was the unique perspective found on each blog and the conversational tone with which the information was delivered. It’s relatable and feels genuine, in fact, a good blogger can draw you in and make you feel like an old friend. That’s typically what I look for when deciding on my new favorite blogs.

Pinterest

One other place that I spend a great deal of time {probably too much time} is Pinterest. I’ve been obsessed with Pinterest since the very beginning when I heard a story about it on the news a few years back. I remember thinking that the concept was purely genius! It was the perfect solution to the clutter I keep of magazines, recipes, and other inspiration! Now this was back when you still needed an invitation, which I kind of loved…hello exclusivity! Anyway, I was hooked from the get-go and have been in dire need of a Pintervention ever since! One thing that I never realized until recently is that the majority of Pinterest is simply a curation of images and links to individual blog posts! So if you love Pinterest, then you love blogs!

So I began paying much closer attention to blogs and referring to them regularly for the solutions to my common problems. I use Pinterest anytime I need to know how long and at what temperature to cook something, I use it for many of my breastfeeding questions, style inspiration, blue day quotes, and on and on. And when it came time to move out of my apartment, a couple years ago, I completed my move-out deep clean exclusively using fancy DIY homemade cleaning tips & tricks from a laundry list of blogs that I identified on Pinterest.

3 Things You Need To Do BEFORE Date Night as a New Mom

Date Night New Mom

Preparing for Date Night

First of all Mama, if you are a first-time mom or recently gave birth, you need to ask yourself if you are really ready to be away from your baby for an extended period of time. One thing you will learn about me is that I am adamant about a woman’s need to follow her instincts when it comes to mothering and her baby. If you don’t feel ready, then there is nothing wrong with waiting a few more weeks, months, or even years until you are comfortable before your first date night after baby. Hopefully, your partner will be understanding and supportive when you express your feelings. That doesn’t mean you can’t go out, but it just means that baby will need to go with you! Yay family time!

If you think that you are ready for a night out with your partner (or with the girls) then I have some tips on things that you can do before you go! This advice is meant to help things go smoothly for you & the kids while you are away!

Watch for your LatherMitts in the mail and let us know what you think!!

How do you feel about bath time? Do you love it? Do you hate it? I’ve had sort of a love-hate relationship with bath time over the past seven years. It had become somewhat of a nightmare with my oldest because he has this beautiful kinky-curly hair that takes a ton of work. He screams and cries when it comes time to comb through the knots & tangles! And then those early baths with our new little guy did not do much to change that perception, as he screamed bloody murder every time he came into contact with the water. Luckily we seem to have turned a corner with little Baby Guy, he’s now entered the giggly, kicky, splashy stage! But bath time always presents challenges at our house, so I’ve always got my eyes out for things that will make bath time easier.

New Bath Gadget

One of the fun perks of being a blogger is the opportunity to try out and review awesome new products! And you may have noticed that I’m also a huge lover and advocate of small businesses! So I was super excited at the opportunity to try out a super cool new bath time tool for babies and kids (not that it wouldn’t be great for adults too)! LatherMitts by LatherUp are the upgrade to bath time that you didn’t know you needed!

School Clothes Planning

I am a planner.  I plan everything.  Right down to the most minute detail…it’s actually kind of OCD ridiculous!  In my planning process, I also research and try to create themes, etc.  So about a year and a half before my eldest started Kindergarten, I started planning.  I asked myself questions like “Am I going to red-shirt him since his birthday is so close to the cutoff?” and “Are we going to settle for the school by our house or are we going to appeal for a spot in a ‘better’ school?” and “What is he going to wear?”  Seriously.

As I researched the local schools, it quickly came to my attention that “uniforms” are common in this area.  I am not used to that at all because where I grew up we were able to wear whatever we wanted as long as it wasn’t provocative or otherwise deemed inappropriate.  In fact, I have very fond memories of expressing my individuality through the style of clothes I chose to wear.  So imagine my dismay upon learning of the uniform requirements that my own child would face.  That was one of the factors that led me to initially attempt an out of district transfer request.  That did not pan out, but I will save that story for another day.  Ultimately we resigned ourselves to being relegated to the ranks of those that wear uniforms.  And not the cute hoity-toity custom private school uniforms.  No, the dress code is polo shirts and solid khaki and/or navy slacks.  Uck.

Challenge Accepted!

I decided to make the uniform situation work for us by thinking outside the box.  Sure, we could have simply ordered the standard outfits from the catalog the school provides or gone the easy route with French Toast everything.  But no, that is not our style. Oh, and did I mention how I detest pique polo shirts?  I think they are the worst, particularly as part of a sloppily put together school uniform.  God forbid the pique polo and standard issue slacks are ill fitting…I just cannot bear the thought!  But what’s the alternative?  Think J.Crew, Mini Boden, Hanna Andersson, Tea Collection, etc.  However, our budget doesn’t support that kind of shopping for the everyday essentials.  We’re more the Gymboree, Kohls & Old Navy set.  But really we pretty much shop at Target and Amazon for just about everything these days!  So that is where this shopping trip will take us today!

This is a great deal if you're looking for tips on growing your new business

** UPDATE: Oh pooh…you missed this year’s sale.  Don’t worry, you can still click the link to add yourself to the waitlist for next time!  **

As a fairly new blogger, I am involved in a lot of groups with not only other new bloggers but also tons of startup mompreneurs trying to get their businesses off the ground.  I love to see everyone’s entrepreneurial spirit buzzing with excitement, promise, and dreams for their future.  We are all looking for ways to close the door on the 9 to 5 to chase our dreams, attain financial freedom and be more present in the lives of our growing families.  There is no absence of drive or creativity, but sometimes we don’t know where to start.  That was the primary thing that held me back from starting, and becoming serious about, my blog sooner.  With blogging, as with other startup businesses, much of it is about building your brand.

Yes, I am telling you to treat your blog like a business {on one side anyway} and get serious about it!  But how do you do that?  Exactly…that is the question!  And I think I’ve got a pretty good answer for you here…
